Background

ForAfrika is an African International NGO with a vision of ForAfrika-To-Thrive. For 38 years, the Organization has been implementing global health and development programs in Africa in partnership with host governments and local communities in 7 Sub-Saharan African countries, delivering lifesaving Health, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) & Economic Empowerment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH) and Education.

Scope of Work

The WASH Officer will report to the Program Coordinator and will primarily supervise the water and Sanitation infrastructure works as directed by the Program Coordinator and Country Manager. The main objective of this position is to support the Program Coordinator in managing safe water and improved sanitation provision.

Objectives

Ensure that the water, sanitation, and monitoring activities are implemented promptly, professionally, and in line with beneficiary needs per the approved work plan and budget. Maintain close links and collaboration with other WASH teams and sectors.

Responsibilities:

Technical Quality:

  • Conduct assessments and technical surveys on new and existing water sources and sanitation facilities.
  • Design appropriate and cost-effective water delivery systems and sanitation facilities.
  • Manage the supervision of all construction works related to water and sanitation.

Staff Supervision & Development:

  • Supervise the Local artisans or technicians and contractors.
  • Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit.

Monitoring:

  • Maintain records of the number and location of all water collection points and sanitation facilities.
  • Conduct water user surveys and water quality Monitoring at the source and Household Level.

Other Duties:

  • Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of the team.
  • Any other duties the supervisor assigns to enable and develop ForAfrika programs.

Professional Standards

All ForAfrika staff must adhere to ForAfrika Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the ForAfrika country employment policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma/ Degree in hydrology, civil engineering, or related subject.
  • Significant professional experience in the design and implementation of water projects.
  • Competent communication skills, effective in representation and liaison.
  • Knowledge of English and the Local language in the districts where ForAfrika is working.
